Compton Rapper, AD, the Modern Hero of West Coast Music

www.HustleTV.tv

A modern day hero of the West Coast, 28 year old Armand Douglas, best known as AD is one of most prominent, upcoming rappers in Compton. To call Douglas a “ rapper,” is an understatement. In today’s generation of “Skr, skr” mumble rap, this artist strives to keep West Coast music alive. What makes Douglas stand out is his originality and commitment to LA sounding music. Moreover, his eccentric, shouting vocals take over the mic. “Bring a more aggressive different energy than rappers today. Every artist should feel like they are underrated in a sense. Stay true to yourself and don’t be afraid to be different. Put God first,” says AD.

Douglas is distributed by legendary West Coast label,  Priority Records (Eazy-E, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre). In 2017,  Last Of The 80’s, produced by Sorry Jaynari hit #22 on iTunes rap charts. Even Kendrick Lamar gave praise to AD’s mixtape, Blue:89 “AD’s been doing his thing.” Douglas is a continuation of great hip-hop.

Album, By The Way (produced by Sorry Jaynari) depicts Douglas’ struggle growing up in the hood. “The streets don’t love you. All my life I’ve had to watch my back because of the neighborhood I grew up in and my affiliations,” expresses Douglas. AD holds it down for his community and stands out as a rising figure of greatness for the streets, to those who once lived the struggle, both buried and alive. DJ Hustle

In album, Last of The 80’s, “Out The Hood” with Sorry Jaynari  reflects AD’s come up. Though he lives in Hollywood, he’s never abandoned his thug identity. Douglas is anything but egoistic or flashy. During dinner, he’s a regular, charismatic guy who jokes with his family in the living room and eats “A1 candy yams” at the dinner table. As humble as he is, this rapper won’t brag about his fame and lifestyle, nor does he put anyone down. Douglas is the kind of man who acknowledges everyone in a room, even if you’re not in his circle, if you will. You wouldn’t expect 21 Savage or Freddie Gibbs to be in the same room with AD, but that just goes to show how Douglas is respected by diverse artists, including those who aren’t just from the West Coast. “I think it’s dope to work with everyone. Everybody has a different story and music bridges it all together.”

The studio is a regular day for Douglas, with pizza, Worldstar, and cracking jokes with Freddie Gibbs and 21 Savage, “Ty Dolla $ign, we gon drop you. We got AD now. Tahaha!” jokes 21. No doubt, AD is hard worker though. He literally shoots video clips in the studio and records demos the same night from 9pm to 4am.

One thing that keeps his spirit alive for music is his daughter. From a troubled, broke kid on the block, in and out of jail, struggling to pay his phone bill, and no whip, Douglas strives to hustle harder and be a better man than ever. “My daughter made me value life more and in turn made me want to be more honest with my music,” expresses Douglas. On the mic and on stage, Douglas also carries his grandma’s spirit with him, who passed away last year.

AD’s not slowing down anytime soon and is only making moves to become the greatest of the West Coast. Douglas hopes to diversify his career and  build upon his craft, including acting. He’s bringing “the juice” to Hollywood, so get your glasses ready.

Lana Del Rey, the Weeknd Dance on ‘Hollywood

By | Featured, Music, News, Video | No Comments

Lana Del Rey  slow dances with The Weeknd  in Dorothy-like ruby red shoes atop the “Hollywood” sign in the dreamlike video for their new duet, “Lust for Life.” DJ Hustle

Between bursts of VHS-quality visual distortion, the singers swoon and cuddle while gazing at the night sky. At the climax, Del Rey skips across the sign’s letters and slides down the ending “D.” “Lust for Life,” the title-track from Del Rey’s upcoming fifth LP, marks the singers’ third studio collaboration, following two Weeknd tracks: 2015’s “Prisoner” and last year’s “Stargirl Interlude.” DJ Hustle

In a recent interview with with California radio station KROQ, Del Rey credited the Weeknd for helping launch her career. “He’s kind of the reason I was ever on the radio like six years ago,” she said. “He started posting all my videos on his Tumblr and social media … He’s been in touch with me ever since then. He’s always been really supportive. He had his own path, which led him to this place that’s crazy big. But we’ve just been friends for maybe the past six years.” HustleTV

Del Rey also revealed to KROQ the title of her upcoming Stevie Nicks collaboration, “Beautiful People, Beautiful Problems,” and detailed the song’s creation. The ” Love” singer explained that, after deciding that Lust for Lifeneeded an outside female presence, she and producer Rick Nowels approached the Fleetwood Mac vocalist.

“I kind of thought I had finished the record a couple times,” she said. “One of those times, I felt I wanted a woman on the record, and I was talking to [Nowels] about who would be great to get on the record. We both could only come up with Stevie. Funny enough, he went to high school with Stevie and wrote his first hit with her.”

Del Rey praised Nicks as “amazing,” noting that she stays up to date with contemporary music. “She’s kind of everything you hope she’s going to be,” the singer added. “She loved the track and added so much to it.” Listen to the full interview below: Follow Hustle on Twitter @DJHustle or Instagram DJHustle2407

Why You Have To Hustle To Get DJing Achievement

By | Featured, Life Style, Music, News | No Comments

Why You Have To Hustle To Get DJing Achievement.

I’m always banging on about how you need to get gigs to really learn DJing – and unless you’re one of those DJs who’s happy messing around in your bedroom doing mixes for only yourself to hear, I stand right by that: No crowd, no deal. DJing is done in public. It’s a two-way thing, and it can’t be two way if it’s only you there. Thing is, to get those gigs, you need to hustle – and many people aren’t at all comfortable with that, especially beginners. DJ Hustle

“I’m not good enough!” they say. Well sorry, I’m going to hit you with it: You’ll never get good enough unless you get out of your comfort zone and land those gigs.  DJ Hustle

YallWest DJ Hustle www.HustleTV.tv

YallWest DJ Hustle www.HustleTV.tv

Luckily, you don’t have to be an amazing DJ to start playing in public. The important thing is that you need to start. I’m going to tell you some of my own story, and then introduce you to two other DJs – Elliot and Peter – to show you exactly what I mean. About four years into my “club” DJing career, I was running my own club night, playing every Saturday to 500+ people. I was a fully professional DJ and promoter. I was paying the club hire fee, the doormen, the other DJs. I was making enough money to be buying my own house from what was left over. I was in touch with agents and booking big names, who were playing alongside me. Other times, when we had no big names playing, I would play the night either with my resident DJ partner or even on my own. Our crowd was loyal, and people often commented that the resident-only nights were better than the guest DJ nights!  Follow Hustle on Twitter @DJHustle or Instagram DJHustle2407

As any successful executive in entertainment will tell you, “when you have the streets connected and endorsing your product, your chances for success increase immeasurably”. That is exactly what is happening with the “new man on the streets” simply known as “DJ Hustle .”

Born and raised in Watts, California … DJ Hustle  and his new “HustleTV ” have quietly become one of the hottest platforms for entertainers and sports figures to get their real, uncut interviews aired to the youthful viewers and to Hip Hop audiences worldwide.

Starting off as a DJ performing at major venues across the country, DJ Hustle  decided to branch out and formed “HustleTV ” in 2008 with the show being aired via the Time Warner Cable system.

Within a one year time period, “HustleTV ” had caught on with the Hip Hop audience nationwide, while DJ Hustle’s rapport with the various Rap music stars and sports figures enabled him to secure the “street level, uncut interviews” the artist themselves preferred and that the viewers so desperately wanted to see.

As DJ Hustle’s grind in the streets took his platform to new heights, the success of Hustle TV motivated him to reach even further and he started to lay the foundation for building a “street edged” one hour cable TV show for Hustle TV that would focus on “controversial street figures and business people”.

Meet the 5 Young Stars of the N.W.A. Biopic ‘Straight Outta Compton

By | Featured, Music, News | No Comments

As far as real-life stories go, the N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton has some of the most uncanny casting we’ve ever seen. And of course it helps that the movie’s quintet includes the son of one of the iconic rappers they play.

“I was sitting in the kitchen watching Sports Center and he comes in and tells me he wants me to play him in a movie,” O’Shea Jackson Jr. told us about the moment his father, O’Shea Jackson (a.k.a. Ice Cube), first approached him about making his acting debut. “He got me a coach and for about two years I was working on the role…. I’ve heard these stories my whole life, so to reenact them — it’s pretty surreal.” (Watch our interview with the cast above.) HustleTV

Yahoo Movies was on the film’s Santa Monica set last fall to meet the five young stars playing the founding members of the seminal gangsta rap group whose hard-edged lyrics confronted police brutality and other social issues. In addition to Jackson Jr., the drama features Corey Hawkins (Non-Stop) as Dr. Dre, Jason Mitchell (Contraband) as Eazy-E, Neil Brown Jr. (Fast & Furious) as DJ Yella, and Aldis Hodge (A Good Day to Die Hard) as MC Ren.

The young cast members posed with the four surviving members of N.W.A. (Eazy-E died of AIDS in 1995) on the day we hit the set, so you can get a full view of the striking resemblances:

“I was an N.W.A. fan, and it’s crazy because my great-grandmother was talking about it, and she’s 96-years old,” said Hawkins. “I don’t know if she’s a fan, but she definitely remembered the music and how much it meant to the culture at the time.”

Straight Outta Compton opens in theaters on Aug. 14. Watch Ice Cube and O’Shea Jackson Jr. talk about keeping it in the family: HustleTV

Lil Wayne Solidifies GOAT Status

By | Featured, Life Style, Music, News | No Comments

Lil Wayne

While the future of Rolling Loud was an uncertain one just a few weeks ago, the first day of the the premier hip-hop festival proved to be a success. Rap fans and others alike descended upon glitzy downtown Miami for a day filled with hip-hop’s rising stars and cultural icons. Even the humid, hazy weather couldn’t deter fans from seeing their favorite artists, especially Friday night’s (May 5) headliners, Lil Wayne and A$AP Rocky. HustleTV

Taking to the stage around 10:20 p.m., Rocky opened his set with a literal bang as fire exploded into the air around him. “Lord Pretty Flacko Jodye” projecting through the speakers, the crowd erupted into an uproar as the Harlem wunderkind rapped the equivocal “Who’s the jiggy n—- with the gold links?”

Shortly after injecting the crowd with his lively energy, the A$AP frontman took to the mic to share a nugget of advice: “F— your cameras, f— social media. It’s all about here tonight.”

While the rapper’s message of self-awareness was overlooked, the crowd embraced the ambient vibes as Rocky switched gears going into his 2015 banger “L$D.” The stage fittingly displayed hues of red, purple and blue as fans became an element of the ultimate trip. HustleTV

A few yards away, fans anticipated the arrival of one of rap’s most prolific figures ― none other than Lil Wayne. Backed by a live acoustic band, Weezy took to the stage shortly after 11 p.m., donning a Gucci hoodie and his staple wayfarer shades. Kicking things off with the 2008 hit “Mr. Carter,” the crowd’s excitement was magnified as the signature drum line projected through the speakers overhead and neon lights illuminated the stage.

“Before I get started,” Wayne told the crowd as he took a moment to enjoy his herbal remedy, “I have to let you know that I haven’t got started.”

The Young Money crooner then went into an epic medley of all his hits to date. From “Got Money” and “John” to notable features like “Believe Me” and “HYFR,” Wayne took fans on a musical journey of his coveted discography.

Reaching the halfway mark of his performance, the Louisiana lyricist grew a bit nostalgic as he tapped into his roots as Cash Money’s youngest frontman. “This portion of the show is for the real Lil Wayne fans,” he told the crowd as the 2004 banger “Go DJ” played overhead. HustleTV
