Milwaukee Bucks had a tough road in the playoffs to become world champions again. In the first round, they faced the Miami Heat again, but the result was different from last season, sweeping them 4-0. Then they faced the big favorite, Brooklyn Nets, in what was an exciting and spectacular series that was defined in seven games. The seventh game went to OT, where Milwaukee won 115-111. In this way, Milwaukee earned the pass to the Eastern Conference Finals, where they beat Atlanta Hawks 4-2.
Phoenix Suns reached the NBA Finals as the favorite after beating Los Angeles Lakers, Denver Nuggets, and Los Angeles Clippers. Phoenix Suns were able to calmly win the first two games of the finals after focusing mainly on double-teaming Antetokounmpo. This strategy paid off very well for Phoenix Suns, as the other Milwaukee players felt the pressure of playing in the finals and did not perform as well as they had throughout the season and the playoffs.
However, for game three, the finals moved to Milwaukee, where coach Budenholzer was able to make the necessary adjustments to deal with Phoenix’s fierce defense and stop Booker, Ayton, and Chris Paul. Milwaukee won game three with a wide difference of 20 points, 120 to 100. Moreover, they managed to maintain the same performance for game four, winning by 109 to 103.
For game five, the finals returned to Phoenix, where the Suns had won 8 of the 10 playoff home games. Phoenix started with a great rhythm and won the first quarter 37 to 21, but thanks to Middleton’s excellent performance, Milwaukee won the second quarter 43 to 24 to end the first half with a three-point lead. At the beginning of the third quarter, Antetokounmpo led Milwaukee to extend the difference to 10 points. However, Phoenix would not be easily defeated, and with Booker’s help, they managed to get within one point of the scoreboard, but Milwaukee finally took the victory, 123 to 119.
Milwaukee reached game six with the possibility of closing the series and winning the NBA title at home. From the beginning of the game, you could feel the pressure on the Phoenix players, making many mistakes and missing easy shots. Although Milwaukee won the first quarter 29 to 16, Phoenix Suns came out to play the second quarter with a different mentality and went to halftime leading 47 to 42. After the end of the third quarter, the score was tied 77 to 77, but with an unforgettable performance of Antetokounmpo with 50 points, 14 rebounds, 5 blocks, and 2 assists, Milwaukee took the victory 105 to 98, to become NBA champions again after 50 years.
