Every year in the month of March, women are honored all around the world. March 9th has been globally recognized as International Women’s Day, and the entire month of March is Women’s History Month.

What’s It Like to Be a Woman

Women’s History Month is an annual declared month that highlights the contributions of women to events in history and contemporary society. 

Women are the backbone of society. We nurture, we create, we build, we love like no other.

For centuries, women have been fighting for love, for jobs, for fairness, for equality. Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be a woman in modern day? A woman in a society full of double standards?

To be a woman is being doubted by your abilities based on the clothes you wear, the style of your hair, the tone of your voice, the way you carry your purse and most importantly the way you carry yourself.

To be a woman is to be afraid to walk down the street at night because you fear of being taken away. To be a woman is going through monthly pains to produce the most precious life. To be a woman is to be looked at by men beyond your age limit because of the shirt you decided to wear on a Tuesday morning. To be a woman is being forced to cover up because it is enforced by your country. To be a woman is being denied jobs just because you are a woman. To be a woman is to never be too careful. To be a woman is to have society tell you what to do with your body. 

What’s It Like to Be a Woman

The list can go on. But despite the turmoil and the daily challenges listed, to be a woman is still the most beautiful thing on this planet. 

To be a woman is to be beautiful, caring, strong, nurturing, courageous, a mother, a lover, an advisor, a counselor, and most of all human. 

“Being born a girl in a conservative Indian family is challenging,” said first-year MAPC student Mahima Seth. “I’ve always got to hear that I have to behave myself. As I grew up, I was told I should learn how to cook so that when I get married, I could cook for my family. In simple words, I was told I had to do everything for everyone except myself. But there was an exception, my mother. She always encouraged me to break these patriarchal barriers and never stopped me from my education or work. So in other words, to be a woman is to be proud, and a proud woman I am. A proud woman who lives for herself and not for others,” Seth said. 

Despite the great geographical disparities of women all over the world, we still all want the same thing: equality. Women have been fighting for equality all over the world since July of 1848, where the first attempt to organize a national movement for women’s rights occurred in Seneca Falls, New York. 

There is no hood like womanhood. To have millions of unknown sisters who go through the same things as you. Having a mother with the strength of a bull and the advice of a therapist. Being surrounded by women who inspire. There is beauty in it all. 

What’s It Like to Be a Woman

“I’ve been blessed to learn from strong women to lead with heart, act with compassion and never, ever give up,” said Donna Uchida, University of San Francisco MAPC Program Director. “Looking back, I would tell my younger self to work to live rather than live to work, but I’ve enjoyed the journey and had phenomenal career experiences. I live in the present and look to the future with great joy,” said Uchida.

At least 13 people have been charged in federal court – and 40 others in local court – for their roles in breaching the Capitol, authorities said Friday. 

Bay Area attorney David Lim once worked at the Capitol as a staff assistant to a congressman and is a former prosecutor in Alameda and Santa Clara counties as well as a defense lawyer.

“My heart just went out, really, to all the people who work there,” Lim said. 

Lim said, “You could make an argument that everybody that went in there with the intent to disrupt the counting of electoral ballots is guilty of sedition.” 

But he said in order to prove a serious crime like sedition, the U.S. attorney will have to show that the person acted with force. 

“So I think one of the defenses is going to be, well my guy was the 50th person through the door, the police were standing there, sort of just let them in, he didn’t exert any force to get in,” Lim said. 

But for now, federal prosecutors appear to be relying on more everyday statutes. 

Lonnie Coffman of Alabama was charged after a search of his GMC pickup truck uncovered 11 molotov cocktails consisting of mason jars with melted styrofoam and gasoline, authorities said. The ATF said those items had the effect of napalm.

Richard Barnett, 60, of Arkansas, seen with his boots up on a desk in House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office, has been charged with entering and remaining on restricted grounds, violent entry and stealing an envelope from her office. Her staff says a laptop is also missing. 

The death of Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick could also lead to criminal charges. He died of injuries after trying to stop the mob. 

“If his death is caused or is determined to be a result of some sort of struggle that caused him to go into distress where he later then died, then certainly you’re looking at a possible homicide,” said Lim, who helped prosecute the Ghost Ship warehouse case in Oakland. 

The FBI released images Friday of other people wanted in connection with the chaos. 

In a statement, FBI Director Christopher Wray said, in part, “To be clear, what took place that day was not First Amendment-protected activity, but rather an affront on our democracy.”

There’s a new development in Dr. Dre’s divorce from Nicole Young: The rapper has agreed to pay his estranged wife nearly $2 million total in temporary spousal support, according to multiple reports.

Dre’s wife since 1996 had filed legal papers in September seeking installments of $1.9 million each month, plus another $5 million to pay her attorney. 

In his official response at the time, Dre said the couple had a prenuptial agreement. Young argued that she had been forced to sign the document and that her husband had later torn it up. 

Now, in a deal their lawyers have reached, the “Next Episode” artist won’t pay the $5 million. Young will reportedly be responsible for her own legal costs. 

As TMZ reports, Dre, whose real name is Andre Young, will continue to pay for his wife’s living expenses at her home in Malibu and the cost of her mother’s place in Los Angeles’s tony Pacific Palisades neighborhood. He won’t be responsible for the cost of Young’s security.

As COVID-19 cases continue to spike across the United States, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced that he will be issuing a stay at home order with a curfew attached for a ‘limited’ time on Thursday afternoon.

Starting this Saturday night, non-essential work, movement and gatherings will be prohibited between the hours of 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily, according to a news release from the governor’s office. The order will last a month and is set to expire at 5 a.m. on Dec. 21, but it could be extended as needed.

The order will impact all counties in the most-restrictive purple tier, which includes everyone in Southern California.

“The virus is spreading at a pace we haven’t seen since the start of this pandemic and the next several days and weeks will be critical to stop the surge. We are sounding the alarm,” Newsom said in the release. “It is crucial that we act to decrease transmission and slow hospitalizations before the death count surges. We’ve done it before and we must do it again.”

This lockdown is more so targeted rather than the first lockdown in March of this year; which was an around the clock lockdown.

This lockdown is limited to late-night and overnight hours because that’s often when people are more likely to engage in social activities and gatherings that could lead to an increased risk of transmission, the release explained. 

Under this new order, non-essential businesses must close by curfew. Essential businesses may keep their regular store hours such as grocery stores, liquor stores and food places.

In an afternoon news briefing, California Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. Mark Ghaly credited the order back in March in keeping the number of cases down at the beginning of the pandemic.

“We saw its impact back in March, those difficult days adjusting to the reality of COVID. But that kept us ahead of the curve,” he said. “And just like then, today’s actions will help us bring down transmission and flatten our curve, this time in a very important and urgent way.”

California on Thursday reported 11,478 new cases of coronavirus over the previous 24 hours, the state’s highest single-day number to date during the pandemic. The seven-day average has ticked upwards to 9,665, according to Ghaly.

The state’s testing positivity rate has also increased at a concerning rate, nearly doubling to 5% over the past 14 days in just a few weeks, Ghaly said.

Without the new and enhanced measures, officials said they fear there will be an “unprecedented surge” in hospitalizations if COVID-19 cases continue to rise sharply, something that could overrun the state’s health care system.

The mastermind film creator Steven Spielberg himself, could not have written a movie more electrifying than the year “2020”.   Ok, so here it is; we are in the middle of a worldwide pandemic and the icing on the cake is…. yes, that’s right.…it’s a presidential election year!  Those of us that have viewed the presidential debate can say that it is reminiscent of watching two boxers in the ring; speculating who’s going to take the next punch.  Nonetheless, it has appealed to younger voters with its catchy one-liners such as Joe Biden’s “Man, will you shut up!”, or Kamala Harris’ “Mr. Vice President, I am speaking”! Deciphering between presidential candidates has wreaked havoc on the minds of countless Americans. We are in a stressful, overwhelming, and chaotic situation where most of us are just trying to keep hope alive.

Presidential Debate

Many Americans have become so consumed with the current political theatrics, that they are struggling to hold on to their own goals and dreams.    I’m not here to downplay the importance of voting; now more than ever it is imperative to do our part and encourage others to vote. What I am saying is, to not lose sight of who you are in the process.  Make sure you focus on your needs, your family, and career.   When it is all said and done; as 2021 approaches you need to be ready to hit the ground running your own race.  Also, make sure you are practicing self-care by doing such things as taking time out for mediation, prayer, exercise and working on your own aspirations; these often-overlooked elements are essential to our psychological health.  

When it comes to the presidential debate; use your intuition to determine what stances matter most to you.  What issues get your blood boiling? The fact of the matter is , if you aren’t centered in who you are then odds are that you will likely make a decision that is not in your best interest.  Exercise your right to vote, tell a friend and most importantly encourage others to look at the long-term effects of voting.  At the end of the day… what matters most is you!  Now go out, be great…and Vote!

As part of the deal rescuing TikTok, U.S. tech company Oracle is joining hands with Walmart to form a new entity called TikTok Global, which will be headquartered in the United States. 

That arrangement appears to satisfy the White House’s concerns over the security of American user data, even though Chinese tech company ByteDance is expected to hold its majority-ownership position. 

“The interactions with the Chinese government, and the ability of the Chinese government to put pressure on the ByteDance company, is still substantial,” said Chris Kelly, former chief privacy officer at Facebook. 

“It won’t be strange to have interaction between the two companies on a number of different issues, including algorithmic operations, so that could stretch into personal data pretty easily,” Kelly said in an interview. 

TikTok, which has some 100 million active monthly users in the U.S., is owned by Chinese tech giant ByteDance. But for months, the Trump administration has been pushing TikTok to sever its ties to ByteDance. 

“While we strongly disagree with the implications of TikTok as a national security threat, we nonetheless understand the concerns,” wrote Vanessa Pappas, interim head of TikTok, in a statement on Saturday. “We’re pleased that today we’ve confirmed a proposal that resolves the Administration’s security concerns and settles questions around TikTok’s future in the US.” 

“We are a hundred percent confident in our ability to deliver a highly secure environment to TikTok and ensure data privacy to TikTok’s American users, and users throughout the world,” said Oracle CEO Safra Catz, who served on Trump’s 2016 transition team. 

Oracle and Walmart officials say that TikTok Global will create more than 25,000 new jobs and pay $5 billion in taxes to the Treasury, though specifics were not provided, such as over what period those taxes were expected to be paid. 

In addition, TikTok Global said it will develop an educational curriculum driven by artificial intelligence to teach children basic reading, history and other subjects.

I enjoy talking to people, helping others and being resourceful.  I love working under pressure, organizing everything, being creative and coming up with new ideas that’s why I love being a Publicist and doing Marketing.

I went to College and study marketing and management, but I ended up being a medical assistant because I felt closed to people and loved helping others.  Being in the medical field for 10 years open many doors for me I learned so much and grew professionally, but I always felt like I was meant to be more.

I quit my job and started doing eyelashes.  I knew a lot of friends that were influencers, models and artist so I used them to help me promote my new business.  Little did I know my new beauty venture was not going to last long.  Someone I knew told me they liked my idea of doing interviews to my clients while they were getting beauty services and thought I should meet this big promoter in LA name Bobby Dee.  He said he had the best concerts but lacked having social media content, backstage coverage and more.  I never hear of Bobby, but I saw his concert flyers and he had best line ups.

2) Being publicist has it been difficult for you staying up late long hours with demanding clients? 

Yes, I have stayed up working late not because they are demanding because the project is long or requires a lot of attention.  Clients get demanding at the beginning because they are voicing their needs and wants, that’s a good thing.

3) Who has played a meaningful role in your life?

My father.  He is always been a business man and about the hustle.  That’s where I got it from.  The drive and motivation to not stop knowing I’m able to do anything I want.

4) Covid -19 how has it changed your life?

Absolutely, no live shows and events.  I mainly work in the music industry not having an aundience and artist preformed has been the hardest.On a personal level I dedicated time to myself and kids.  I’m a better version of myself.

5) What are your future plans continue to grow as a PR?

 Finding creative ways for my clients to shine during this pandemic utilizing the tools we have now.  I want to expamd my clients not only artist but companies in the beauty and food industry.

6) What’s some good advice to someone who’s looking to be a publicist like you?

 Make sure your doing because you are passion it and have fun.  Always ask questions don’t assume, respect other publicist.  Don’t give up the sun shines for everyone.

7) What else should our readers know about you?

The person that was supposed to introduce me with Bobby never came through.  One day on my Facebook page the mutual friends list came up and Bobby Dee’s name popped up.  I send him a friend request and when he accepted me, I send him a message requesting for a meeting with him.  He accepted to meet at his office, and I told him my vision for his company, and he trusted me with open arms with every single thing I put on the table.  I started as his backstage host, then social media manager, then his publicist.  Now I am his right and left hand for Bobby Dee Presents and Uncle Snoops Army.

I have grown so much as a Publicist.  I deal with many concert venues in different states, media outlets and artist management.  Representing a company and building a reputation takes hard work.  I had met so many legends in the music industry.  In November of 2019 I did the press conference of Snoop Dogg’s album “I Wanna Thank Me” with my now business partner Barbara Sanchez.  She is also an amazing Publicist and aside from my job with Bobby we do PR services for other companies and artists.

Aside from being a Publicist I manage social media accounts, do brand development and marketing for Bobby Dee Presents and other companies.  Branding is so important creating something new that people like, having excellent customer service, reputation and logo the list goes on.  I’m very passionate about every project I take on.  Anyone starting their career in PR I will tell them to make sure they enjoy what they do, network a lot, be nice to everyone even when they are not to you, always be on time, respect the vision of your client needs, deliver what you say you are going to do.
