MODOK (Mental/Mobile/Mechanized Organism Designed only for Killing), a big-headed supervillian and CEO of weapons company AIM, is obsessed with defeating any Avenger that he can get his hands on, but preferably Iron Man (Jon Hamm). While MODOK views Iron Man as his archnemesis, the feeling is clearly not mutual. MODOK knows this deep down, but can’t stand the thought of somebody daring to not be intimidated by his villainy. Unfortunately, AIM is not in a great financial spot due to devoting its resources to the CEO’s Evil Plots of questionable success. Facing the loss of everything, MODOK reluctantly sells the company to the mysterious GRMBL Corporation, and now has to deal with their sickeningly hipster overseer Austin (Beck Bennett), who has no interest in MODOK’s ideas (or dignity). On the home front, MODOK’s marriage has become another casualty of his murderous obsessions. His wife Jodie (Aimee Garcia) kicks him out of the house and into a crappy apartment, making it that much harder to be a good dad to his kids, the angsty Melissa (Melissa Fumero) and the hormonally charged Lou (Ben Shwartz).

In the tradition of other adult animated comedies like Bojack Horseman and Rick and Morty, Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. is about a man who tries desperately to cling to what makes him special, despite how often it conflicts with… well, everything. And the only thing he can think of is to lash out, sometimes with laser blasts.

Despite the huge stylistic and tonal change from the MCU, Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. is able to tell a twistedly touching story about a supervillian who realizes that he isn’t so super anymore. And maybe he never was.

Things get much worse when Dennis learns that his daughter, Brianna (Ally Ioannides), has gone missing after using the drug. Steve finds the drug’s creator (Ramiz Monsef), who explains that it allows you to experience time in a nonlinear way, but is more potent than he realized. Watching Mackie and Dornan buddy around is a great time. If only we got to go to work with them more.

Eric Andre brings his wonderfully bizarre and shocking sense of humor to Netflix with the new buddy comedy/prank movie Bad Trip. Having developed a cult following on Adult Swim with The Eric Andre Show, a surrealist talk show with deeply uncomfortable celebrity in-terviews and weird street pranks, I was very eager to see where Andre’s mind would take a fea-ture film built entirely on shocking unsuspecting bystanders. What we get is a crisp 86 minute romp up the East coast that delivers on the shock value and doesn’t try to tell anything but a sim-ple, yet entertaining, story.Andre plays Chris, a manic, yet good-hearted guy, sick of working boring jobs around thesame boring city all his life. Bud (Lil Rel Howery), Chris’ childhood friend, doesn’t think much of their lives either, but has always been too chicken to do anything about it.

Making things harder for Bud, is his violent bully of a sister Trina (Tiffany Haddish), who, in between prison stints, makes it her personal mission to make her brother miserable. One day, Chris’ childhood crush Maria (Michaela Conlin) walks in to his work. She tells Chris about her art gallery in New York City and invites him to stop by if he is ever in town. Knowing that it has to be destiny, Chris convinces Bud to steal Trina’s bright pink car (she’s in prison again, anyway) and head outto meet the woman of his dreams. Little do they know, Trina has just broken out of prison and is not very happy about having her car stolen.

With a crazed con on the warpath and the love of Chris’ life waiting for him, the buddies must make it to NYC in one piece.As mentioned, the story is very simple, but it is not something we are expected to put much thought into. There are some staged moments between the characters, but they are little more than segues between the next prank. It works because the pranks are so memorable in the “I-can’t-believe-they-did-that” sort of way. There are not many movies where we can see some-body’s genuine reaction to what they think is a woman about to throw a guy off a roof, or a go-rilla brutalizing a clueless tourist. With a quick runtime and tons of inventive gags, Bad Trip is a journey worth taking.

She broke her social media silence with a sweet message that reminded all parents of the huge — and lasting — impact they can have on their children’s lives.

The announcement was a classic Friday afternoon news dump. With the weekend within sight, TMZ reported that Kim Kardashian West had finally filed for a long-speculated divorce from her third husband, Kanye West. Released strategically, the news fits the Instagram-filtered approach to life we have come to expect from the Kardashian/Jenner clan. They only want us to look at what they want us to look at. Blemishes should be either sanded off or smoothed over.

The end of Kardashian West’s almost seven-year marriage shouldn’t be seen as a blemish, though. Ending a relationship is messy and sad and complicated, especially when millions of dollars and multiple kids are involved. But for the reality star, this might also be an opportunity. When Kardashian started dating Kanye West in 2012, it seemed like she traded in a momager for an overzealous artistic director. It was thanks to Kanye that Kim finally got the access to the fashion firmament that she had always craved. The Met Gala used to have a firm “no reality stars allowed” policy, and West attended alone in 2012. The next year, Kim attended as West’s plus one, but she later revealed on Twitter that she cried that night because she was sure no one wanted her there. The next year, Anna Wintour finally put her on the cover of American Vogue, long the holy grail for those in the fashion space. But even then she wasn’t alone; Kanye, culture’s celebrated creative genius, stood beside her.

Over the past few years, we’ve caught glimpses of a new Kim Kardashian emerging. And I think it’s likely that she is even more intelligent and fascinating than most give her credit for. Part of the reason for the divorce seems to be that Kim’s and Kanye’s interests have diverged. While he was running his failed presidential campaign in 2020, she was working on a four-year apprenticeship to become a lawyer (like her father) so she could fight to fix the criminal justice system. Now that is a TV show I would pay for Hulu to watch: “Kim Kardashian, Esq.” or maybe “Kim Kardashian, EsKuire” to keep with the family branding.
