Artist are becoming self empowered and educated by well seasoned artist like myself. A lot of the bigger record companies are going to fall out of the picture unless they switch their business modo. As a culture we have been through a lot and its good to see people able to feed their families from music.

I love this question. It really makes me think about my plan to stay on top. If I had this answer, I could bottle it and sell it. From my experience, the internet is the way to go. It’s been difficult for artists to try to remain independent. The larger labels have almost a monopoly on distribution and marketing. The trend right now is to empower smaller labels who support their artists growth and development. My job is to stay in tune with the industry, stay true to my sound and create the next trend through my music. We had gangsta rap on the West Cost that caught fire, from there hip hop grew into the South sound that was super popular. We went into this new sound of music, some may refer to as mumble rap that is still big now. I see energy changing up every so often and the West Coast is due. I feel my sound on Clarity is a prime example of that. 2) Who has played a meaningful role in your life?  

I’ve had a lot of homies that have helped me progress in my career. If someone really stands out it would be my Homie C.A.U.T.I.O.N. I met C.A.U.T.I.O.N. years ago before music was a career for me. I was trying to shoot a music video off an old Polaroid digital camera in the alley behind the apartments I was staying at. C.A.U.T.I.O.N.  was driving by. He pulled over and hopped out and started to chopping it with me. He told me he was a producer if I was ever interested in exclusive beats then he was willing to help me out. At that time, I had never owned my own beats. I was always rapping over other artist’s tracks. I was excited to have an actual producer. Within 24 hours of us meeting I hit him up and spent the last few dollars I had on some beats from him. Come to find out later, he was also a music engineer, the man knew his stuff. He helped lay down the blue print for me getting started in taking my music serious. One thing he always stressed on me was to never cut any corners. That message has stuck with me my entire career, and I’ve only gotten better.

3) Has it been a smooth road?  

That would have been nice if it was. I want anyone who is trying to get into the Rap Industry to understand that this game is about Sacrifice. What are you willing to sacrifice to achieve your dream? This is the reason for the name, and idea, behind my first single off the Clarity album, Sacrifice. The first tour I ever went on was something I put together on my own. I had just finished up my EP Balance. I financed the entire project on my own and set up a tour.  I planned on hopping in my car and driving to each state. I had just enough money for gas and some food. The plan was to sleep in my car along the way. The day before I was set to hit the road I got into a car accident and my car was totaled. I wasn’t going to allow to stop me from touring. I decided, I was going to jump on a train with the little money I had and sleep outside after each show. As I was packing my bags, I received a phone call from my OG homies sister. She offered to let me borrow her car so I could continue with my tour. I think about that story all the time. I could had given up, but my dedication to music wouldn’t allow me.

4) How did you meet Spice 1? 

Some years back I was booked to open up for him at a show he was headlining in Mammoth, CA. My brother used to play his music all the time and so I grew up listening to his music. Spice 1 was always someone I wanted to meet, I appreciated his music and became a fan. I drove out to Mammoth with a few homies and ran into him at the show. I introduced myself to him and we immediately connected. Over the years we continued to run into each other at different shows and events. He did a show in my hood in Santa Ana. I called him and told him I was coming to the show to make sure we was good while he was in my city. I hit up some of my homies and we went up there. He was cool and brought me up on stage during his performance. That was a level of respect you don’t see a lot of. We hung out that entire night. His energy was solid and he fit in with the rest of my homies as if he was from my hood. He signed me to our contract a while back and gave me the freedom to do my thing and to grow as an Artist.

5) Who inspired you to Rap?  

My older brother used to throw house parties nearly every weekend. He had this one friend who would always freestyle at the parties. Most of the time his freestyles would get other people involved and the energy would be lit. It would usually turn into a cypher or a battle and they would just go at it! I thought it was dope how someone could put words together over a beat that weren’t pre-written. He had a collection of underground Rap artists and would play different ones all the time. I liked that he had music no one else in the neighborhood had and that the sounds were different. This really lit a fire for me to get started. I hustled to get beats, get into studios and to perform. Over the years my sound has grown, and I believe it to be uniquely Kay Nine Tha Boss. When my fans, or new listeners, hear this album they will hear something that is uniquely me but authentically Hip Hop. I feel my sound just hits different and brings something to the table that Rap has been missing.

6) Clarity what does it mean to you? 

I had a rough upbringing; my mother wasn’t usually home and my father was almost completely out of the picture. I turned to the streets and my Homies for guidance. I did what I felt I had to do to survive. Of course those decisions got me into trouble and eventually landed me in Jail. Music has always been with me throughout my journey in life. I continuously work on fine tuning my craft and have matured as an Artist along the way. Clarity is going to bring all of that in full circle and show my fans a polished, professional product that has what my fans, and new listeners, will love listening to over and over. I used to step into the studio with an agenda. Either, I was creating music for my homies in my hood or I was trying to make a hit for the radio. I no longer have those expectations; I create what feels right to me. Don’t get me wrong, I want all that success but I’m speaking from my pain and energy and hoping others can connect with me. I believe that’s what timeless music is. It’s real, it’s from the heart and it hits hella hard right where you need it!

Drake has changed music forever. Simple as. He represents a new breed of young men, one that the music industry was not used to seeing, and one the world wasn’t used to seeing either. One that talks openly about his mistakes. One that talks about women with respect (for the most part). One that knows how good he is. Drake represents this generation. 

Drake’s Influence To The Music Industry

The Canadian rapper/singer has been on top of the game for a long time now, mixing the perfect blend of pop and rap music, and creating a new breed of artist while doing so. Long gone are the days where all rappers talked about was drugs and guns. 

Nowadays we have rappers like Drake with lyrics like “I gave your nickname to someone else. I know you’re seeing someone that loves you, but i don’t want you to see no one else.” Straight Outta Compton it ain’t. 

This is not a slight on the genre of gangster rap, but it is the reason why Drake is such a huge success. People like to listen to what they can associate with, and seeing as the majority of the world hasn’t been in jail, artists like Drake are way more relatable. After all, who among us hasn’t had relationship trouble? Or who hasn’t felt a lack of confidence at some stage? They say talk about what you know, and Drake has done this perfectly. 

Rap music goes hand in hand with toughness, with bravado, with “masculinity”. Drake took this stereotype, and threw it out the window. Because of the way he talks about his feelings, and the sincerity with which he does it, he has been labelled ‘soft’ by a number of his critics. This is all too common a feeling for young men these days, which is all the more reason why artists like Drake are so important. 

Drake’s Influence To The Music Industry

It’s not weird for a young man to talk about their feelings. It’s not soft. It’s normal. And not only has Drake normalised it. He made it cool. If Drake can say the words, “I needed to hear that shit, I hate when you’re submissive. Passive aggressive when we’re texting I feel the distance”, well then why can’t everyone? 

After all, if the same guy who is preaching about how lonely he can get, is the same one with thousands of beautiful women fawning over him, and winning awards by the dozen, it would encourage younger men to think that maybe being so openly comfortable with their emotions is the way forward. 

Drake also releases music in a unique way, as he keeps most of his music off Youtube. He occasionally puts his biggest hits on Youtube, but more often than not he keeps them on Spotify. For some people, this is just an annoyance, as it means they are forced to listen to endless Conor

Estee Nack’s newest visual for “WEDONTSLIP” is a breath of fresh air to say the least. As soon as you hear the first few bars, it’s obvious that Nack’s lyricism and hood bravado are undeniable. For starters, the flow is crazy. It sounds like Nack doesn’t even try. Like he’s merely talking that shit and it just so happens to run rampant over the beat. Estee blends an aggressive delivery over smooth jazz samples and minimal drums, making “WEDONTSLIP” suitable for any occasion. Whether working out, rolling blunts, or pouring a glass of wine for your lady as the sun sets, Nack delivers the perfect feel good track.

It’s reminiscent of the blues in the way that Nack spits real life lyrics and the music itself still manages to be an overall uplifting experience. The rhyme schemes don’t compare to anyone else rapping right now. Nack’s wordplay is in your face and relentless. The long running ad libs sound like Nack is singing to the stars or a higher power. It’s like Nack is manifesting god-like emcee abilities. The beat is reminiscent of a Griselda track but Nack has a sound that’s all his own. He’s doing something special right now. Emcees aren’t rapping like this and a lot can’t scratch the surface of the realness living in every one of his lines. The video was shot in Miami, Fl.

Shown enjoying themselves under palm trees and all around a spanish style villa, you see that Nack and his friends are clearly working hard, but they’re not thinking too hard. You can tell they’re enjoying themselves and I’m excited to see where his career takes him. I first heard Nack on the Westside Gunn banger titled “Banana Boat,” where Gunn only spits the hook and let’s Nack do the heavy lifting. When you hear Nack rap, it’s easy to understand why Gunn felt inclined to let it breathe. 

Hailing from Lynn, Massachusetts, Nack has given me a good reason to start digging into more New England rap. If it’s more of the same, it’ll be hard to say any region is doing it better right now. “WEDONTSLIP” audio is available on all streaming sites and is a solid single off of his 2020 project “@Minimansiondust, Vol. 4.” The video can be found on YouTube. “WEDONTSLIP” was produced by Mr. Rose.

1) Will Heck , please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?

In order to get where I am today, it took a lot of trial and error. I ventured into dancing, acting and sports trying to find what I felt was my calling. Trying to ignore the fact that music has and always will be a huge part of my life. There’s so many experiences, so many aspects of storytelling that you can create by writing or making a song, that’s what grabbed me. I gained a lot of confidence thru the past experiences, allowing me to truly just be myself when I make the music. I work just as hard as I want those around me to, because I believe in myself.

In this life we are chasing after, you have to believe in yourself but also have to be solid with who you are. Don’t be scared to stand your ground. It took me a minute to get there, but now that I’m here. I think that I’ll be just fine. The sky is the limit.

2) Has it been a smooth road? 

No road is ever smooth, but you can make the path shape into whatever you’d like. I always try to keep the same approach, but am able to sit back, watch and adapt when needed. There are setbacks, but nothing that’s worth it is going to be easy. If it was, then you wouldn’t want it nearly as bad.

3) How do you think the hip hop industry will change over the next decade?

 I think the hip hop industry is always changing. In the next decade, I think there’s going to be so many sounds blending with others. As artists, we’re all trying to create something special, something truly unique. Whether you take parts of rap and fuse it with rock, or what have you. I think the industry is changing by means of accessibility for sure. We can manage our own careers on our phones, and monitor our streams and all that.

4) What else should our readers know about you?

 The readers should know that I work hard to give them all the best of myself. I want to give them something to get hype to, but something that’s relatable. I don’t ever want to have to lie in my music. I started as a poet, I love to write, so I’m always doing research for songs and trying to approach things in ways that can help me grow.

5) Who has played a meaningful role in your life?

My father and my grandmother both have equally played a huge part in my life. My grandmother taught me to be patient, and put my heart into what I do. But to also do it with kindness and never be afraid to help others. My father showed me that any opportunity is yours, you just have to buckle down and take it. He used his platform as a teacher and a musician to create opportunities for others, and I admire that immensely. HustleTV Hustler of the week are you next to be featured?

Sophomore albums are notorious for the make or break of a career: something that the 26-year-old rapper, Aminé, is all too conscious of. Coming off of a light-hearted debut turned mainstream break like Good for You there was a lot of expectation for Aminé to re-produce a similar album. That expectation kept the sophomore album on the backburner.

A well-received mixtape was able to relieve some pressure but Limbo is still a sophomore album that took two years to come to fruition. The result? A diverse track list that showcases many different talents of the young musician while coming together to create a well-rounded compilation of part-matured, part-figuring-it-out reflections on the current state of the world. 

Enlisting help from other popular artists like Summer Walker, Young Thug, and Vince Staples, Aminé is able to accomplish a cohesive piece of work that is relevant to current music listeners and should solidify him as a lasting act in the industry. At base level, Aminé offers commentary on the indecision many of us feel as we plunge into adulthood but there is so much more behind the free-flowing album. 

Limbo has the musicality of an indie jazz album paired with the poetry of a socially conscious young black man experiencing 2020. This rapper has a fresh perspective on the intricacies of human relationship and supports his musings with interesting beats, integration of real instruments, and important melodic support. Some darker toned songs sneak in and compliment his easy-going persona to establish him as a serious musician while challenging us all to consider what we’re experiencing and where we are headed.

Overall, Limbo offers us a chance to relate to Aminé in a new way and see him in a new light. It seems that the mainstream music industry may finally be ready for this hybrid hip-hop album and perhaps even allow for anticipation of a third album that doesn’t conform to traditional popular music. Hopefully it doesn’t take two more years for us to find out if Aminé is up for the challenge.

After months of rambunctious, outlandish, thought-provoking tweet rants, and photographs,
Kanye West released his eighth studio album, “ye.” Within the last couple months, Kanye has
been engulfed in the media with his various, rapid tweets, disturbing word selection during his
live visit to TMZ, and his announcement of all the expected projects to come this summer (Cudi,
Nas, Teyana Taylor, Pusha T, and himself). While many have deemed the artist cancelled and
have shown their disdain for his thoughts, politics, and overall personality, the “genius” himself
managed yet again to do what he always does, bring attention to himself right on time for his
music release. Following that of G.O.O.D. Music signee Pusha T’s Daytona, ye is also
comprised of only 7 songs making for a 23-minute listen. The cover, shot from Kanye’s phone
mere hours before his listening party, features the Wyoming mountains with a message saying, “I
hate being Bi-Polar it’s awesome.”

Since the album is only 7 songs, it is fairly easy to listen to the project in its entirety. I mean, it’s
only about 25 minutes of your time. Over shadowy instrumentation and production the concise
album begins with a very clear yet disturbing message – “Today, I seriously thought about
killing you… I contemplated, premediated murder.” says Ye. He goes on to reiterate that he has
also thought of killing himself and the fact that he loves himself way more than his adversary
(whoever that is). As the first song begins, the atmosphere is fairly set with what the rest of this
“album” will feel like. The production relays TLOP vibes. Half of the song is just Kanye talking
in a distorted voice, saying this same message over and over. As we reach the second half of the
song, the first thing that grabs your attention is indeed the Ye’s production. DJ Hustle

“Trump-Ye’s” (as a friend of mine continuously has deemed this current era of Kanye)
production skills are clearly still unmatched and immaculate to say the least. The beat switches
midway as Ye swiftly raps about Ye season, being broke, and how speaking on his name will,
“get your tooth chipped like Frito-Lay.” The lyrics are very… fundamental. They do not offer
much of a story, but the highlight would definitely be the production. Trump Ye quickly reminds
everyone, fans or haters that his creativity and composition skills never left.

The next song and the first standout track, “Yikes” echoes vibes from TLOP’s “Wolves” track
with a twist. Continuing this dark, eerie theme, Kanye begins the record singing, “Sh*t could get
menacing, frightening, find help // Sometimes I scare myself, myself.” Again, the production is
impressive. Personally, I feel like Ye was in his bag on this record and was delivering some of
his trademark flow on the track. This time around he does deliver a couple of noticeable bars.
Firstly, he digs at himself and his recent visit to TMZ with lyrics such as, “Yeezy, Yeezy trollin
OD, huh? // Turn TMZ to Smack DVD, huh?” He surprisingly brings up Russell Simmons and
the #MeToo scandal, “Russel Simmons wanna pray for me too // I’ma pray for him ‘cause he got
#MeToo’d // Thinkin’ what if that happened to me too, then I’m on E! News.” Of course, it
would not be a Ye record without a few cocky lines to just remind the people of who he is and all
the girls he’s ever had. He gets personal even discussing being on meds and his bipolar disability
being a superpower rather than a hinderance.

Yeezy really takes it up a notch with his production on “All Mine,” a personal favorite of the
project. With help from Ty Dolla $ign and Valee, the song is definitely a banger. Here Kanye
references the drama between his sister-in-law, Khloe Kardashian, and her baby’s daddy,
Cleveland Cavaliers player, Tristan Thompson. Again, the flow and lyricism deliver trademark
Kanye feels. It’s raw and uncut. He says exactly what he feels in the most unapologetic form

possible. He starts “talking that sh*t” some might say. He was feeling himself and you can hear
it in the song. “Wouldn’t Leave” meshes artists, Jeremih, PartyNextDoor, and Ty Dolla $ign’s
voices all into one harmony. Ye pays homage to his wife, Kim Kardashian-West for staying by
his side through all of his messy shenanigans. He also alludes back to his reckless social media
posts and again, his words at TMZ and how they caused Kim to panic, “Just imagine if they
caught me on a wild day // Now I’m on fifty blogs gettin’ fifty calls. // My wife callin’, sceamin’,
say, “We bout to lose it all” // Had to calm her down ‘cause she couldn’t breathe// Told her she
could leave me now, but she wouldn’t leave.
“No Mistakes” delivers a classic Ye vibe. Another standout from the album, “No Mistake” relays
MBDTF appeal along with a hint of Graduation. Kid Cudi, Charlie Wilson, and Ye make pure
magic with the record. Wilson’s vocals are strong and out of this world, Ye’s production
continues to shine effortlessly and the record is immensely catchy. Kanye’s flow is probably at
its best here. The song is beautiful and definitely one of those diamonds in the rough. “Ghost
Town” makes for a good listen because of the behind the scenes charm. John Legend, Kid Cudi,
and G.O.O.D.’s newest signee 070 Shake come together with Ye to create this grungy,
revolutionary styled record that instantly makes me think of the group, Fun’s “We Are Young”
record. Kanye’s presence as far as rapping and delivery is not truly important here. He acts more
as the engineer here while the others deliver.

Ye’s last song, “Violent Crimes” finds Ye rapping about his baby girl, North. He raps about the
fears of his daughter growing. With the help of Nicki Minaj, 070 Shake, and Ty Dolla, the song
shows a more vulnerable side of Kanye. We not only hear his thoughts but visualize them as
well. He raps about how at age 40, he no longer looks at woman as an item to conquer but rather
a being to nurture and protect. He talks about how men are pimps, players, dogs, and any other
names under the sun. He has some playful lines and some heavy imagery as well. The song ends
with a voicemail from Nicki the Ninja as she tells Ye how she visualized the “I hope she like
Nicki I’ll make her a monster” line to be delivered.
Overall, ye is not a bad album, but I would never jump the gun to call this album a classic…
Having played the album over half a dozen times, it has some shining moments with 3, maybe 4
standout songs. From the samples and beat selection, to the composition and choice of artist for
each tune, the production is flawless. Mike Dean, Benny Blanco, Francis & the Lights, Che
Pope, and Mr. West himself truly outdid themselves here. The sounds stand out more than
anything else on this project. All in all, it’s not that great / monumental as everyone has tried to
make it out to be. As an actual Kanye West fan, it was not what I expected. Maybe my
expectations were set to high but the album did not really grab me by the throat on the first few
listens. Each song has some memorable aspect to it as far as certain lines and bars, but the project
as a whole does not really tell much of a story. Many of the lyrics are basic and repetitive. It does
not really answer anything at all. The “story” here is just a somewhat more in-depth summary of
everything we have witnessed from Ye during these last few months. We see that he brings up
the TMZ situation, his rants, and even family matters with Khloe and Tristan, but besides that,
there is nothing more. No, it does not make you think of any of Kanye’s first few albums. It does
have moments of classic appeal but the entire project falls short of that legendary, timeless
Kanye that we have been so desperately longing for. Now, as Kanye West the producer, the
album gets a pure A+. Besides that, the album is nothing more or less than cool. HustleTV
