Written By Ryan Jansen

As an up and coming pro with unusual potential, Mike Tyson managed to ravage through the world of professional boxing as a lion amongst the feeble.  Gifted with an unearthly combination of power and speed, he conspired to become the youngest heavyweight champion of all time with an ease that seemed unfathomable.

Along the course of a twenty-year pugilistic journey, Tyson would inevitably encounter various personal and professional obstacles.   Distractions and vices would eventually cast a shadow on the phenom from Brownsville who managed to bob and weave his way into the boxing hall of fame.

Prison time and substance abuse along with other distinct roadblocks seemed at once to define what had become of the once hulking hero.  Yet it was those who would silently appear to be watching who would prove to forget the truthful words of Rocky Balboa as spoken by the main character in one of Sylvester Stallone’s most recent films.  “It’s not about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward.”

In recent years, Tyson’s actions have amplified and echoed the testament of established author Jim George when he once proclaimed, “It’s not how you start that’s important but how well you finish”.  While developing Tyson Ranch, a licensing and branding company devoted to making cannabis more universally understood, Tyson has recently managed to establish a successful platform for his voice through his well know podcast, Hotboxin with Mike Tyson. On his podcast, Tyson speaks informatively about the trials, the tribulations, and the truths regarding what he has come to know.

Efforts to find himself and make peace with life’s unbounded essence have seemed to change Tyson for the better and his recent philanthropic efforts would not display otherwise.  In proclamation that he will indeed return to the ring on November 28th against former four division world champion Roy Jones Jr. Tyson gives hope to us all in showing that it is never too late to redress the course of one’s existence.  When asked about his newly emerged desire to once again fight, Tyson proclaimed, “the gods of war have reawakened me.  They’ve ignited my ego and want me to go to war again”.

Mike Tyson appears on the kick off of ‘Shark Week’ https://hustletv.tv/mike-tyson-appears-on-the-kick-off-of-shark-week/ Wed, 12 Aug 2020 15:04:59 +0000 https://hustletv.tv/?p=13275 Mike Tyson appears on the kick off of ‘Shark Week’

Written By Zaina Cummins

Featured annually in late July or early August, The Discovery Channel’s popular Shark Week series begins. This year’s Shark Week started off with boxing legend, Mike Tyson.

“Shark Week” returned Sunday, with a huge guest, “Iron Mike.”

On “Air Jaws: Ultimate Breach Off,” experts were called in to capture a shark breach off the coast of Seal Island, South Africa, with one capturing a 15-foot breach, a new record for “Shark Week.”

Boxing legend Tyson also managed to put a shark to sleep by tickling its nose on “Tyson vs. Jaws: Rumble on the Reef.” But before that he vomited, saying he was “scared to death” to get in the water with the sharks.

How ironic is that? A man who got the name “Iron Mike” from hitting incredibly hard. A man who nearly killed his opponents in the ring, a man who bit another man’s ear off– is afraid of sharks.

If you think about it, sharks and Tyson are nearly the same; except one conquers the ring and the other conquers the sea.

Tyson even had to rid sharks away that were surrounding him and came across a black tip reef shark.

“I took on this challenger to overcome fears I still deal with in life,” he explained, adding, “I equate this with overcoming my fear of getting back into the ring at 54 years old. I learned from this experience doing Shark Week that whatever intimidates me.”

Nevertheless, Tyson still proves to the people that he remains the champ on all surfaces.

Discovery will air more than 20 hours of shark programming this week. There will be more star appearances by Shaquille O’Neal, Will Smith and others.

Iron Mike Returns: Tyson Steps Back Into the Ring https://hustletv.tv/iron-mike-returns-tyson-steps-back-into-the-ring/ Mon, 27 Jul 2020 16:36:36 +0000 https://hustletv.tv/?p=13184 Iron Mike Returns: Tyson Steps Back Into the Ring

Written by Andrew Goldberg

One of the biggest names in boxing is stepping back into the ring.

On Thursday Mike Tyson, 54, announced his return to the boxing world via social media as he prepares to take on former heavyweight champion Roy Jones Jr. Tyson, who last fought in 2005, said on ESPN’s First Take that he does not expect his age or the long layoff to be an issue.

“Just because we are 54 doesn’t mean that we have to start a new career and our lives are totally over. Not when you feel as beautiful as I do, and I’m sure that other people feel the same way.”

The bout will not be a pushover for Tyson, however, as Jones Jr. has had prolific career in his own right. Owner of a 66-9 career record and title belts at the middleweight, super middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight level, Jones Jr., 51, will be looking to spoil Tyson’s debut with a knockout of his own.

The two champions will go at it in an eight-round exhibition on September 12 at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California. Fans will have the opportunity to watch via pay-per-view or on the digital media app Triller.

The match is expected to draw major numbers as boxing fans around the globe look to see if “Iron Mike” has any magic left in his fists. The former undisputed champ first took the boxing world by storm in 1986 when he became the youngest heavyweight champion in history at just 20 years old. He would go on reign over all competitors throughout the eighties until finally losing in a stunning upset to little-known competitor Buster Douglas in 1990.

The following decade earned Tyson a decidedly different version of fame. After a rape conviction in 1992, Tyson spent three years in prison before returning to the ring in a series of comebacks, the most notable of which involved matchups against rival Evander Holyfield. Tyson would lose twice to Holyfield, with the second match ending in disqualification after Tyson repeatedly bit into Holyfield’s ear.

In recent years, however, Tyson has worked hard to rehabilitate his image. In 2012 Tyson launched the “Mike Tyson Cares Foundation”, which has dedicated itself to the assistance of children from broken homes to “give kids a fighting chance.”

Additionally, Tyson has also found success in other areas of the entertainment world. From publishing his autobiography Undisputed Truth in 2013 to launching his own promotion company and YouTube channel, Iron Mike has continuously opened himself up to curious fans and viewers. He’s even starred in the popular animated series Mike Tyson Mysteries on Adult Swim.

Yet despite these current victories, Tyson still has his sights set on where it all began. And whether or not he is able to defeat Roy Jones Jr., one thing remains certain: Iron Mike is once again the talk of the boxing world
