Kehlani creates sweet Honey with new single
It has been quite some time since the world received new tunes from the carefree princess
herself. Lani’s last major release was her debut album “SweetSexySavage,” released in January.
Since then, the Oakland songstress has been truly living her best life, traveling the world,
completing her very first world tour, experiencing a new, budding relationship (which seems to
be her new single’s inspiration) and performing at sold out venues.
Released firstly on SoundCloud on Tuesday, (Oct. 3), Kehlani returns with the soul soothing
“Honey.” Winnie the pooh isn’t the only one who loves honey as Lani sings,
“I like my girls just how I like my Honey; Sweet.
A little selfish // I like my women like I like money; Green // A little jealous.”
Kehlani hinted at new music on her Instagram last Monday (Oct. 2), where she posted her hand
dripping with honey and a mysterious caption reading, “Comment “?” if you want new
muuuuusic?.” After the loyal fan base swarmed her Instagram comments doing as she asked,
she released the track the next day. DJ Hustle
with simple, acoustic production, Kehlani raves about her love interest and well… her
admiration and love for women period. The record is very chill and simple but yet so beautiful. It
truly edifies the “less is more” motto. There are no massive trap beats, 808’s or any bass really at
all in the song. It displays a more underground artist feel that most music lovers enjoy. The track
makes one feel as though Kehlani grabbed her guitar in her room, and just started sharing what
was on her mind.
Long term fans and newcomers alike will appreciate the record because of the rawness and
authenticity that is possesses; that same vibe that is usually equated with Kehlani. The singer
continuously reveals herself, her truth, feelings and more. This song follows in that same pattern.
The melodic ballad continues with Baelani showing her appreciation for her love interest as she
sings,
“All the pretty girls in the world, but I’m in this space with you.
Colored out the lines, I came to find, my fire was fate with you.
Heartache would stay with you, fly great escapes with you.”
Kehlani’s passion radiates throughout the track’s entirety. The song brings her to earth as she just
happily sings about love. She appears to be in a great space in her life and the record shows that.
“Honey” is a very personal, mellow melody that leaves listeners wanting even more music from
the Californian beauty.
“Honey” is now available on all music streaming services and SoundCloud!
