Welcomed Back To Raiders Jon Gruden After 16 Years
A six-year dance came to its crescendo and conclusion Tuesday as Jon Gruden was welcomed back for a second stint as Oakland Raiders coach in an elaborate introductory news conference in the team’s performance center.
More than 110 media individuals were available, and in addition 45-50 previous players, including nine Hall of Famers in Jim Otto, Howie Long, Tim Brown, Jerry Rice, Ted Hendricks, Mike Haynes, Dave Casper, Willie Brown and James Lofton. Others available included Tom Flores, Jim Plunkett, Cliff Branch, Charles Woodson and Rich Gannon.
Following a video introduction featuring his first Oakland residency, Gruden was presented by proprietor Mark Davis, who called it the “greatest day of my life,” almost 20 years after Gruden was contracted by the late Al Davis as a 34-year-old dubious mentor. DJ Hustle
After four seasons, from 1998 to 2001, Gruden was sent to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for two first-round picks, two second-round picks and $8 million.
Davis said he has been longing for matching Gruden with general administrator Reggie McKenzie since assuming control over the establishment in 2011, after his dad’s death. HustleTV
“I think I was where it counts some place [wanting to mentor again],” Gruden said. “You know, I was at a point in my life where I needed to be with my family. My children were at an age where I had an opportunity to mentor in secondary school, associate with them. In any case, this place, this man [Davis] appropriate here, has a ton to do with why I’m here today.
“The planning is correct. It truly doesn’t have anything to do with the agreement. I simply need to be a part of the Raiders once more. I want to finish as an Oakland Raider, and I can hardly wait to begin.”
