Wale Drops All Star Break Up
Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Mr. Wale Folarin drops another necessary gem, “All Star Break
Up.” While the title seems a bit dreary and pessimistic with the spirit of love floating so heavily
in the atmosphere, Wale releases yet another immensely relatable, poetic record. “If my pride
was aside, I probably would text you first, but if you could die from a broken heart you would
drive a hearse,” Folarin begins. From there, Wale’s pen paints a vivid picture of the fears /
hesitancies of love and being in a relationship. Hustle
He throws subtle yet humorous shade at this mystery woman. “And Ms. Valentine, dollar signs
have you satisfied? Do your goals peak at a rollie and Fashion Nova Ad? And I don’t mean to
talk to you like a hoe, because we both do what we want but if I want you I must want you bad,
right.” The flow exudes such vintage, Wale vibes from the past. It is unquestionable that he is no
doubt, outstanding at storytelling and he further proves himself with the song. His flow is great,
the delivery matches the vibe of the production and the message is right on time. Some might
take it as a, anti-Valentine’s Day song especially with Wale chanting, “I don’t believe in
Valentines,” but the song is much deeper than just being against love. Through the usage of witty
metaphors, clever wordplay, and characterization, he reveals himself more, and even speaks to
why he tries to keep his heart blocked from affection and love, “I spent so much at Fendi, she
knows I’m cool with Robyn; she bothers me for the Fenty yeah. I’m trying to block the part of
my heart that thrives on your affection, you tried the love, it’s not enough, it’s cars, it’s money,
attention. HustleTV
Wale feels that the while he is also flawed with his own inner troubles and insecurities, the
“love” this woman so calls has for him is only materialistic, which further propels him away
from her. Her only concerns are Instagram likes, flights, and being seen on the scene. He sees
what she is really about, therefore causing him to condemn Valentine’s Day and continuously
repeat that he does not believe in Valentines. He even manages to throw a little humor at the end
of the track saying, “I find it funny that Cupid’s busiest day is four days before the All Star
(Weekend). It was fun while it lasted!”
These are the type of records that make Wale stand out from the rest with ease. Many cannot spit
their thoughts the way he does and it is truly a gift. The production delivers a modern yet classic
appeal that, along with Folarin’s delivery creates a timeless gem. DJ Hustle
