On Thursday, Canadian rapper Tory Lanez was charged in the shooting of Houston rapper, Meg Thee Stallion.

With his legal name being Daystar Peterson, Lanez is facing one count of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and one count of carrying a loaded, concealed firearm in a vehicle, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement.

Lanez, then 27, was riding in a SUV in Hollywood Hills on July 12 when he got into an argument with a 25-year-old woman, prosecutors said in the statement. He is accused of shooting at her feet several times when she exited the car and wounding her, the statement said.

Megan Thee Stallion, whose real name is Megan Jovon Ruth Pete, is identified as “Megan P” in the criminal complaint.

In August, the “Savage” star publicly accused Lanez of shooting her in the feet. She talked about the July incident during an Instagram Live on her verified account.

She also posted a graphic photo of her wound, which she later deleted. The public bullied her into posting this picture because there were doubts on if she actually got shot or if this was a publicity stunt. Posting this picture made her lose the little amount of dignity she had left because she was trying to prove herself.

The internet has been going back and forth between believing Lanez and believing Meg. The majority believe Meg but there are always doubters. Tory Lanez being one of them.

Lanez claims his innocence to this day and he even has some people standing firm behind him, including his father.

His father, Sonstar, wrote on Instagram, “My son, I say to you this day. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will show you today; for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you shall see them again no more. You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the LORD will give you Daystar. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out and face them tomorrow, and the LORD will be with you.”

An arraignment for Lanez is scheduled on October 13. If convicted on both charges, Lanez could face a maximum sentence of 22 years and eight months in state prison.
