Phoenix Suns Beat Denver Nuggets In Game 4

At the beginning of this season, there were several teams labeled as favorites to win the NBA championship. In the Eastern Conference, Brooklyn Nets, Philadelphia 76ers, and Milwaukee Bucks while in the Western Conference, the favorites were the reigning champions Los Angeles Lakers, Kawhi Leonard’s Los Angeles Clippers, Denver Nuggets, and Utah Jazz. Although no one considered Phoenix Suns as a candidate, with the arrival of the experienced Chris Paul the team was complemented, and together with the young star Devin Booker Phoenix became one of the strongest teams in the NBA this season.

Phoenix Suns finished the regular season in second place in the Western Conference with a record of 51 wins and 21 losses, showing throughout the season an attractive and overwhelming style of play being the third-best offense in the Western Conference averaging 115.2 points per game.

Phoenix’s first playoff opponent would be the reigning champions, Los Angeles Lakers, led by LeBron James. Although the Lakers finished in 7th place, Phoenix was not considered the favorite to win this series because several players had no playoff experience. However, in the first game, Phoenix showed that they are a strong contender for the title by defeating the Lakers 99 – 90. Although they lost the next two games, Phoenix won the next three games to eliminate the reigning champions in 6 games to face one of the favorites, Denver Nuggets.

Denver Nuggets came into this series after eliminating Portland Trail Blazers in 7 games, and unlike the beginning of the season, Phoenix Suns were the clear favorite to advance to the conference finals. Phoenix Suns arrived with a streak of three consecutive victories and with a +51 points difference.

The first game of the series was played in Phoenix, and until the third quarter the game was even, and neither team had managed to take a big lead, but with a good run of Bridges and Booker, Phoenix Suns finished the third quarter with 9 points ahead, and in the last quarter continued with the streak and ended up winning the game by 122 – 105.

Although Denver Nuggets had the MVP of this season, Nikola Jokic, Phoenix Suns managed to establish a good defense to limit their game and prevent Jokic from helping his teammates to score. With this strategy, Phoenix won the second game with a wide difference of 25 points, 123 to 98.

For the third game, the series would travel to Denver, but Phoenix imposed their game from the beginning, winning the first quarter 37 to 27 with an incredible performance of their two-star players, Chris Paul and Devin Booker. Although Denver improved in the second quarter, it was not enough to stop Phoenix’s versatile offense, winning the game 102 – 116.

Phoenix Suns swept Denver Nuggets and won the fourth game easily, 118 – 125, to reach the Western Conference Finals and become the top contender to win the NBA title. No other team in the playoffs has a streak like Phoenix’s of 7 consecutive wins with a plus-114 point differential, which represents an average lead of 16.2 points per game.

In the playoffs, Phoenix Suns have improved their defense considerably by holding both the Los Angeles Lakers and Denver Nuggets at bay. Of the 10 games they have played in the playoffs, in 4 of them, their opponents have failed to score even 100 points. This, combined with their crushing offense, makes them a fearsome opponent for any team, which makes the odds of them winning the 20/21 season ring very high.
