Bet Awards Honor Black Female Artists
HustleTV is reporting that this year’s Bet Awards emanated live at the Microsoft Arena. Believe it or not, there was a live audience present for the awards ceremony for the first time since the pandemic. Taraji P Henson hosted the event and deemed it as an event to honor past and present black women artists. As a matter of fact, Queen Latifah was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award. After that, artists such as Lil Kim and MC Lyte performed a medley of her songs. She was certainly surprised when Lil Kim took to the stage to perform one of her biggest hits. Nobody can remember the last time that we saw her. Late rapper DMX also got a huge tribute as The Lox, Method Man, and more performed his past songs. It was indeed a night nobody will forget as Naomi Osaka took home the Sportswoman award of the year due to her amazing tennis performances that nobody will be able to duplicate for a pretty long time. Meanwhile, H.E.R. added another award to their long list of awards as they took home best female r&b artist. The late Chadwick Boseman took home the best actor award over favorites such as Eddie Murphy and Daniel Kaluuya. As for the best actress award, Andra Day took it home over other nominees such as Zendaya, Viola Davis, and Issa Rae.
For the Sportsman of the Year award, LeBron James won the award over NBA players Stephen Curry and Kyrie Irving. For the Sportswoman of the Year awards, Cardi B won Best Collaboration with her duet with Megan Thee Stallion on their song WAP. She was also nominated for the best female hip hop artist but the award was took home by Megan Thee Stallion. Speaking of Megan, she was tied with DaBaby for having the most nominations for the night and she also took home other awards such as Video of the Year and Viewer’s Choice. Needless to say, it was a huge night for her as she looks to pave the way for up and coming young black artists looking to make a name for themselves in this industry.
The After Party of Bet Awards featured a ton of artists performing their hit songs for a huge pass the mic edition with DJ Cassidy. In fact, the roster of artists included Akon, Sean Paul, Ray Jay, Beanie Man, Jadakiss, and even Nelly. They performed songs that everyone would love to dance to while the night was still young. Looking back, Queen Latifah gave an inspiring speech to all the young black women. She told them to not give up on their dreams. Cardi B shocked the entire world with her pregnancy reveal at BET Awards though. Needless to say, she got a lot of attention with what she was wearing and everyone congratulated her even if she won only one award for the night. This is Cardi B’s second baby and she made the big reveal during her performance with Migos.
