Jerry Jones Kurt Warner Honored During Hall Of Fame Game

It is that time of the year again and football season is right around the corner. Tonight the Hall Of Fame Game features the Dallas Cowboys and the Arizona Cardinals. During half-time, NBC Sports spoke with Hall Of Famer Inductee Jerry Jones on the present state of the Cowboys & the evaluation of the franchise since Jones bought the team in 1989.  After buying the Dallas Cowboys, Jerry decided to fire Hall of Fame Coach Tom Landry during a game of golf. Jones followed up that decision by hiring his former college teammate Jimmy Johnson and then traded his Pro-Bowl Running back Herschel Walker to the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for five players and six draft picks.

Those players were LB Jesse Solomon, DB Isiac Holt, RB Darrin Nelson, LB David Howard, and DE Alex Stewart. The draft picks turned into Hall Of Famer Emmitt Smith, Russell Maryland, Kevin Smith, and Darren Woodson. At the time of both these decisions, Jones was criticized for his decisions making, but it turned out to be the beginning of the Cowboys dynasty in the early 1990s. Dallas would go on to win three Super Bowls in four seasons, but it did not come without some controversy. On March 30, 1994, Jimmy Johnson and Jerry Jones came to a mutual decision to part ways after five seasons together.

“We’ve had hours of candid discussions the last two days,” said Mr. Johnson, “and I can sincerely tell you that I feel better today about Jerry Jones as a friend than I have in our entire relationship. After our discussions, we mutually decided I would no longer be the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys.”- Dallas Morning News 

The Cowboys would replace Jimmy Johnson with Barry Switzer and would win their latest Superbowl in 1996 and they have not been able to reach a Superbowl in 21 years. DJ Hustle

Former Arizona Cardinal and Hall Of Fame Inductee Kurt Warner will be honored in this year’s Hall of Fame Ceremony. Warner began his pro football career as a fourth string quarterback for the Greenbay Packers in 1994, he would later be released. Following Warner’s release, he began working as a grocery store checker making “$5.50 per hour.”  That would not stop Kurt from chasing his dream of being an NFL quarterback. He would move on to play in the Arena Football League and Warner was able to catch the eye of NFL Scouts and would land a back role with the St.Louis Rams at the time.  After an injury to Trent Green, Kurt Warner was able to finally get his opportunity to start in the NFL and turn himself into the MVP of the league.  In 2000, Warner and what is now known as the “Greatest Show On Turf” would win his first and only Superbowl against the Tennesse Titans.  Kurt Warner would make two more Superbowl appearances, but he was able to take home those trophies losing to Tom Brady in 2002 and Ben Roethlisberger in 2009.

As for the final score of the Hall of Fame Game, the Arizona Cardinals would fall to the Dallas Cowboys 18-20. DJ Hustle
