Victoria Monét: 2020’s Silver Lining

The events of 2020 have left many people canceling plans or rescheduling them for who knows when. Many social outings have stopped and we’ve been forced to stay inside. Despite these unfortunate events, there are still things left for us to look forward to, one of which is new music from some of our favorite artists. There is a silver lining to all of this and her name is Victoria Monét.
Monét is no stranger to the music industry. She’s penned many songs for artists such as Brandy, Kendrick Lamar, Chloe x Halle, Ariana Grande and more. In addition to her songwriting, she has released her own bodies of work including four EP’s. The powerhouse has been the topic of discussion this year and she’s only getting started.
In 2020, Monét released the following singles: Dive, Moment and Experience (with Khalid and SG Lewis).
Dive is a sexy, thrilling, playful song that emphasizes intimacy and connecting deeply with someone from a woman’s perspective. After the release of the song, Monét stated that she wanted this song to be an “icebreaker” in welcoming that said intimacy and connection.
Moment, released in February, continues to gain traction. After the release of the music video, it became all the buzz on social media. It’s hard not to drool while watching as the video highlights creative transitions in between each frame. In many shots Monét, giving goddess vibes, draws you in and makes it hard to look away from her and her co-star’s captivating beauty. Moment is a slow, passionate song encouraging one to step up and take control of the moment at hand.
Experience, although about a break up, is a fun song that makes you want to get up and dance. The song exudes R&B vibes accompanied by disco feels. Breakups aren’t easy, but they give you the experience to learn, grow and find love again.
On Instagram, Monét released a short film, titled JAGUAR, revealing that these songs will all be part of a bigger project that she is releasing on August 7th.
In her short film, directed by Maxime Quoilin, Monét showcases her artistry through her unique aesthetic, voice, style and visuals. She shows that she is more than just an artist, but a storyteller as well.
